Everest Three Passes Trekking Difficulties

Everest three passes are 5400 m above the sea level, the altitude is already very high. The trekkers can have altitude sickness due to the lack of oxygen.  The attitude becomes the major difficulty in the passes trek. The proper acclimatization is highly recommended during the trek.

Altitude only can’t be the difficulties during the 3 passes trek. Long hiking day and the cold weather. The weather can’t be in the favor always and it can really hit hard during the trek. If the season is favorable then these difficulties may not occur. But the temperature goes down rapidly during the night time.

All the trekkers have not had the experience of the long day walk. The three passes trek include the walk through the Rocky Mountains and the snowy road. Trekkers have to cross some of the glaciers on the way, some glacier makes the trek risky and the difficult. Before the Cho La Pass, there is the long glacier and it needs around 40 minutes to pass and the fear of melting the glacier makes the trekkers terrified. You must have to take all of your necessary things. One must carry warm clothes and a sleeping bag. Power bank, maps, medicine, water, hand wash as some of the hotels don’t provide it. You carry all of your useful things on your own. Everest high passes don’t have many shops after a certain time and cost may be high there.

The Everest three passes cost around USD 1500 to USD 1800 per person. It can be less if there is two or more person. As the person increases the cost will be decreased. This price includes the airport pickup, all meals, and accommodation during the trek. The cost includes one porter to carry luggage. This cost includes expenses for guide and porters and first Aid kit travel agency will pay all the Government and local area taxes where applicable. And the entrance fee of Sagarmatha National Park. Kathmandu to Lukla and Lukla to Kathmandu flight ticket including airport taxes. Seasonal Fruits and Some Snakes as Biscuits nuts etc. during the trek.


The best time to trek the Everest high passes trek is spring and autumn seasons. These seasons are more comfortable for the trekkers to trek the 3 passes trek. The weather is clear and climate is favorable in these seasons. There are more difficulties in other seasons as the weather is not so good.


The three high passes are difficult as it may raise the altitude problem. Due to the lack of oxygen, altitude sickness becomes the major Everest passes trek. Sometimes due to the heavy snowfall in the off-season, it may hard for the trekkers to continue trekking. But if the person is physically fit and mentally prepare to take the risk then there can’t be more difficulties.


The three passes trek are one of the highest altitude trek in Nepal. Due to the lack of oxygen in the upper altitude, trekkers may face altitude sickness. And if the trekkers have any breathing problem, heart disease or asthma then that person has altitude sickness from the very beginning. But if the trekkers are healthy then he may take some rest on way and have enough liquid to fight the altitude sickness.


The gear that one needs to pack for the three passes trek must include all the warm types of clothes from top to the bottom. A travel back which has enough space to keep all the clothes and necessary materials and the very lightweight sleeping bag. Medicine for the common sickness and first aid kit. Some other necessary things are hand wash, torch because there can’t be electricity everywhere. Power bank in case your mobile gets dead. GPS trackers or map is compulsory during the trek.
