Day-by-day itinerary

Tap a day to expand the details.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara along winding highways that pass through river valleys, terraced hills, small towns, and rural settlements of central Nepal. As you move westward, the landscapes gradually shift from busy urban surroundings to peaceful countryside with views of green hills and distant Himalayan foothills. Upon reaching Pokhara, you settle into the lakeside city, known for its calm atmosphere, Phewa Lake views, and stunning reflection of Machhapuchhre on clear days, where you can relax and prepare for the trek ahead.

The day starts with a short drive to Nayapul, the gateway to the Annapurna region, where your trekking journey officially begins. The trail follows the Modi Khola river through charming villages like Birethanti, where you can see local life, small shops, and traditional houses. As you continue, the path gradually ascends through terraced farmland, forested sections, and stone pathways until Tikhedhunga. From here, the trek becomes more demanding with a long climb of stone steps leading up to Ulleri, a hillside village offering beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and the first real sense of Himalayan trekking terrain.

Today’s trek takes you deeper into the lush forests of the Annapurna region as you gradually ascend through rhododendron and oak-covered trails. The path is peaceful and shaded, passing through small settlements like Banthanti and Nangethanti, where trekkers often stop for tea and rest. As you gain altitude, the air becomes cooler and fresher, and occasional clearings offer glimpses of snow-capped peaks. The final stretch brings you to Ghorepani, a vibrant mountain village surrounded by forested ridges and known for its warm hospitality and stunning mountain backdrop.

Before dawn, you hike up to Poon Hill, one of Nepal’s most famous viewpoints, where sunrise paints the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges in golden light, creating a breathtaking panoramic spectacle. After returning to Ghorepani for breakfast, the trail continues along scenic ridges and forest paths toward Tadapani. The walk offers a beautiful mix of open mountain views and dense woodland sections, creating a peaceful and varied trekking experience as you reach the quiet forest village of Tadapani.

The trail begins with a descent through thick forest down to Kimrong Khola, followed by a steady uphill climb toward Chhomrong. Along the way, you pass waterfalls, stone staircases, and small forest clearings that open up to mountain views. Chhomrong is a beautiful Gurung village perched on a hillside, offering incredible views of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South, and serves as a key gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary.

The day starts with a steep descent to the Chhomrong Khola before crossing a suspension bridge and beginning a long ascent toward Sinuwa. From here, the trail enters dense bamboo and rhododendron forests, creating a cool and shaded environment. Passing through Bamboo and scattered resting points, you continue deeper into the valley until reaching Dovan, a quiet and remote settlement surrounded by thick forest and the sounds of flowing rivers.Today the landscape becomes more dramatic as you move into higher altitudes. The trail follows narrow paths along cliffs, waterfalls, and rocky sections, gradually becoming more alpine in nature. Vegetation starts to thin, and the valley opens slightly as you approach Deurali. This remote resting point sits beneath steep slopes and towering cliffs, offering a true sense of being deep within the Himalayas.

The trail steadily climbs into a wide glacial valley surrounded by dramatic peaks and rugged terrain. As you approach Machhapuchhre Base Camp, the scenery becomes increasingly alpine with snow patches, moraine landscapes, and stunning views of Machhapuchhre and surrounding mountains. This is your first full entry into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a natural amphitheater of giant Himalayan peaks. A short but powerful ascent takes you deeper into the heart of the Himalayas. As you reach Annapurna Base Camp, you are surrounded by towering peaks on all sides including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. The sunrise and sunset views here are unforgettable, with golden light illuminating the snow-covered amphitheater.

After a sunrise at base camp, with the first light turning the Annapurna Sanctuary’s wall of peaks gold, you begin the long descent back down the valley. The trail retraces the route past Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Deurali, then drops steeply beside the Modi Khola through the gorge, where the walls close in and waterfalls come down the rock face. Below Bamboo the forest thickens with bamboo groves and rhododendron, and the air warms noticeably. Sinuwa sits on a terrace above the river with a last clear view back towards Annapurna South.

A shorter day, mostly downhill through forest and farmland. The trail drops through Chhomrong on its long stone staircase, crosses the Chhomrong Khola and climbs briefly before descending again through terraced fields to Jhinu Danda. The reward here is the natural hot springs, a twenty-minute walk below the village on the bank of the Modi Khola, where three stone pools sit right beside the river. A long soak is the traditional end to the Annapurna Sanctuary trek, and the evening in the lodges is a relaxed one.

An easy final morning on the trail, descending to the suspension bridge over the Modi Khola and following the riverside path through Siwai and New Bridge to the roadhead. From there a jeep takes you down the valley to Nayapul and on to Pokhara, a rough ride at first that smooths out once you reach the highway. You arrive in Pokhara by early afternoon, in time for a hot shower and a meal by Phewa Lake, with the Annapurnas you have just walked among standing on the skyline across the water.

The last day of your journey to leave the Annapurna ranges and Pokhara behind. The drive back to Kathmandu follows the Prithvi Highway along the Trishuli River, through roadside towns, terraced hills and river valleys, and takes most of the day; the mountain flight covers the same route in under half an hour, with Himalayan views the whole way if the weather is clear. Back in Kathmandu you are transferred to your hotel, with the rest of the day free for shopping, preparing to return home, or your next plans in Nepal.
