Overview

The Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a compact Himalayan adventure that takes you deep into the spectacular Annapurna Sanctuary, combining scenic mountain landscapes, traditional villages, lush forests, and dramatic high-altitude terrain. Starting from Pokhara, the trek follows the trail through charming Gurung settlements and dense rhododendron and bamboo forests before reaching Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 m (13,550 ft).

Along the way, trekkers enjoy spectacular views of the Annapurna Massif, Machapuchare (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and surrounding Himalayan peaks. The route also passes through the culturally rich village of Chhomrong before entering the dramatic mountain sanctuary. Machapuchare, one of the most recognizable peaks in the region, is particularly prominent along the approach to the sanctuary.

Designed for travelers with limited time, this shorter itinerary focuses on reaching the heart of the Annapurna region while experiencing the diverse landscapes, mountain scenery, and local culture that make the trek distinctive. The journey culminates at Annapurna Base Camp, surrounded by a natural amphitheater of towering Himalayan peaks, before retracing the trail toward Pokhara.

Your Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara toward Samrung, passing through beautiful hill landscapes, terraced farmland, traditional villages, and winding mountain roads. After reaching Samrung, begin your trek through lush forests and picturesque settlements, following the trail along the Modi Khola valley. The route gradually ascends through dense rhododendron and bamboo forests, with occasional views of the surrounding hills and waterfalls. Continue trekking toward Sinuwa, a peaceful mountain settlement surrounded by forest. Upon arrival, check into a teahouse and enjoy a relaxing evening while preparing for the higher-altitude days ahead. Overnight in Sinuwa.

After breakfast, begin your trek from Sinuwa toward Deurali, following the beautiful Modi Khola valley deeper into the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trail passes through dense forests of bamboo, rhododendron, and oak, with several ascents and descents along the way. You will pass through villages such as Bamboo and Dovan before continuing toward Himal and Deurali. As you gain altitude, the vegetation gradually becomes thinner and the surrounding mountain landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. The sound of waterfalls and the rushing Modi Khola accompany you along much of the route. After reaching Deurali, settle into your teahouse and rest in preparation for the early ascent toward Annapurna Base Camp. Overnight in Deurali.

Today is the highlight of your trek as you enter the spectacular Annapurna Sanctuary. After breakfast, leave Deurali and follow the trail toward Machhapuchhre Base Camp, gradually climbing through the rugged mountain landscape. As you approach Machhapuchhre Base Camp, the valley opens dramatically, surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks including Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Annapurna I. After a short rest and time to admire the breathtaking surroundings, continue toward Annapurna Base Camp. The trail leads deeper into the natural amphitheater of the Annapurna Sanctuary, where massive snow-covered peaks rise on all sides. Upon reaching Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters, take time to enjoy the extraordinary panoramic mountain views and explore the base camp area. In the evening, witness the changing colors of the mountains as the sun sets over the Himalayas. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp.

Wake up early at Annapurna Base Camp to enjoy the spectacular sunrise illuminating the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After breakfast, begin your long descent toward Sinuwa, retracing the trail through the Annapurna Sanctuary and passing Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, Himal, and Dovan. Although the route follows familiar terrain, the changing scenery is impressive as the barren alpine landscape gradually transforms into lush forests. Continue descending along the Modi Khola valley through bamboo and rhododendron forests before reaching Sinuwa. After the long day of trekking, relax at the teahouse and enjoy and rest.

After breakfast, begin the final section of your Annapurna Base Camp trek from Sinuwa toward Samrung. The trail descends through beautiful forests and traditional mountain settlements, offering a final opportunity to enjoy the peaceful landscapes of the Annapurna region. Continue toward Samrung, where you will meet your vehicle for the drive back to Pokhara. The journey follows winding mountain roads through green hills, terraced farmland, and rural villages before reaching Pokhara. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax after completing your Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek. The rest of the day can be spent exploring Lakeside, relaxing beside Phewa Lake, or enjoying a well-deserved meal in Pokhara.

Packing list
